does anyone have any numbers of top surface areas for any of the popular shapes? OM, dread, J-185, etc.? just for the sake of comparison. im designing my own shape and id like to see where it falls. thanks. |

Outlining the perimeter of a shape using turbocad (or similar?) will generate an area calculation. If no list turns up, you could do it this way. |

well, to be truthful i found a few examples in the archives. when i exported my design from "G thang" into rhino cad, i ran the measurement on the area and it came out around 210 square inches accounting for the sound hole. the examples i found in the archives (dread, OM, and J-185) were around 60 square inches. i was just puzzled by this and unsure if i was doing something wrong or if the information i came across in the archives was wrong. for me, just thinking logically, if you take a 8" by 8" square, which will easily fit into the shape of any of those guitars listed, you already have 64 square inches. thats why i was having a hard time with the numbers. thanks for chiming in dave. im interested what others have to say as well. |

60 inches is about the length of the perimeter .... just taking a rough guess .. assuming that the shape averages out to about 12 wide by 20 long ... thats 240 sq inches. |
