I finally got around to using some EM 6000 last week for the first time. I've had a gallon for over a year, but being the thrifty guy that I am waited until I used up all the USL I had on hand first. I've read a lot of reviews on EM 6000 and many of them had mentioned experiencing problems wet sanding. I've done around 25 guitars with Target's USL lacquer and have always wet sanded w/distilled water without incident. I know there are those who prefer not to wet sand, but I get better results using this technique, so I was a bit concerned. I followed my normal schedule of zpoxy pore fill (this was a neck only) and sprayed and levelled as usual. I wet sanded as usual to level, but I used a "Green" product from Crown called "Next". It's basically an odorless mineral spirit with less harmful ingredients than regular mineral spirits. I'll let each individual judge for themselves how "Green" it is, but I will say that worked very well for this purpose. Better than water and easier to clean as the "Next" slurry comes off much easier than the distilled water slurry does. It buffed out very nicely and appears to be a little harder than the USL. For those who prefer a waterbourne finish, it's a really great product. |

jimmy, thanks for another positive vote for 6000. other reviews have also been very positive. for us without a spray set up and only finishing two or three guitars a year, do you think brushing would work okay? phil |

Yes Phil, brushing the EM-6000 will work fine. |
