On John Hall's advice, because of my degrading skills, I ordered A Chris Steinert 7 piece neck. Well it did not get here today, but he sent pictures(I still can't get pics to post here). Mahogany with center walnut about 5/16" and flanked by b/w veneers. 12 string slot head, 12 fret to body for 24.9 scale. Ebony veneer on headplate and to be different and stray away from "looks like a Martin," I chose the "smile" volute and a Gibson/Guild heel. He drilled it for the new StewMac vintage tuner set. He did not send just one photo-sent a nice selection and it is impressive, to say the least. And, his prices are amazing. I need to get some brace stock and some other stuff Blues Creek will supply. The JJ bent sides are perfect. I did not get them into my mold for two weeks-real humid here in spite of the AC running. When I got out the Hall mold(of course) they clamped in with perfection; they were perfectly bent-no need for crunching the spreaders on this one. I just feel so comfortable with this build with those two gents guiding my steps and all of you to call upon. I am using Shanes beautiful Lutz and an ebony FB with Andy's "Art Deco" abalone and pearl inlays. JJ had sent me the drawing with braces marked out along with the sides and he was even more kind by sending me a sample of fish glue and some fresh granules of 192 hide glue. That kind of generosity is humbling, but I do notice that kind of thing happens around this atmosphere. I am making a new, larger shooting board and since it has come up here several times I will photograph-(I've tried to read here on uploading photos but it is beyond my ken). The shooter board will be 24" long which should handle any guitar plates I may come across. I haven't settled upon ramping. I have been fiddling around with my Performax 10-20 and hope to have it properly set up when the time comes. I think one of the reasons for my happy optomism is that my last two lawyer tasks will soon be done and I can then spend my days in the shop, but the emotions are mixed. (I have my photos on my computer and on Photobucket-maybe a very patient member here can re-explain adding photo attachments so that I can share the neck at least) |

hey mike. glad you're having fun with guitars. what i do with the pics is put them in my desktop, and make sure they are less than 256 megabytes, i think that's it, or 500 pixels, otherwise they won't load here. i just figured out today how to do that with pictures. then with the pic in your desktop, ready to go, go to the bottom of your new topic area, and below that it says "choose file". a window comes up and choose your desktop, and a list comes up of the photo, click on it, select, then when you go back to the place choose file, hit "add file". phew. good luck. |

Thanks, Alan for the guidance. I will give that a try, but I'm still a little confused about sending the pics to "Desktop." Windows 7 is different. If I want to get the pictures from my photobucket(that is where I edit for size, cropping etc.) what is the procedure? The neck/block assembly arrived. It is so well done that I could start putting finish on it-no exaggeration-baby butt smooth. I am impressed with the new Martin truss rod. I went with adjustment through the soundhole, though I prefer at the headstock for adjustment with existing string pull. With the slotted headstock, it would have gotten pretty crowded. The neck is so well executed that I'm going to have a hard time staying honest about the build-I'll be tempted to claim the neck work as my own, but I won't. |

Because of the patient help of some members, I posted photographs of the neck and block. They are in my thread asking about putting a slight radius on the gluing surface of head and tail blocks. So, thanks guys and thanks to Hanalei Moon Guitars(Chris Steinert) for an extraordinarily fine product. |
