I am spraying my first sunburst :? . so far, so good. Infact its looking great. But, how do I deal with the small ledge that is there after I remove the small strip of purfling tape i used instead of scraping the paint of. will it disapare after the clearcoats goes on ?. Or should I sand it a little ?

Lars.

I've only done one sunburst, but FWIW I clear coated the entire guitar with 3 or 4 coats then just sprayed the edge a bunch of times over the next few days. When I thought the was enough build-up (probably something like 6 or 7 normal coats on the edge) I let it cure for a day and leveled it. Once level I sprayed the final top coats.

I'd like to hear if there is a better way.

I've done lots of mandolins, and that is the way to do it. I tape the binding, airbrush the burst on bare wood, then pull the tape and scrape the binding. Then the finish goes on and I usually spray more on the edges, sand it off. So, spray some clear and sand it off before final coats.
