This is a shame. I spray cabinets for a living but with this first guitar I sure care about the final outcome a lot more. I've put in a ton of time. So I've got the first top coat on the whole guitar. I had some issues with the soundboard so I took that all back down to wood and masked the sides and neck off and caught that back up with 2 coats of sealer. I just noticed some tiny little scratches on the side, definitely in the top coat. Should I sand them with 400(?) before the next coat or will they melt away completely with the next coat? It's nitro btw. In my line of cabinetry it doesn't ever work out like that. But our finish is pretty thick. |

What type of finish is it? If it's nitro it should burn in and be fine. If it's varnish, or some catalyzed finish you probably need to sand the scratches out. |

thanks for the responses gentlemen! I had to recheck my first post to see if I missed including that bit of info. yup, It's nitro Everything's going about as smooth as could be expected. And the reason I had to sand back down to wood is Clear McFaddens filler. Never again messing with that stuff. As if my soundboard needed anything anyways, decided it couldn't hurt but boy was I wrong. What appeared to be wiped off completely turned into an uneven white haze after the sealer dried. Anyone ever used that stuff with good results? No problems with the walnut filler or Mahogony colored fillers of course. Clear just isn't clear. I never should've experimented on the soundboard with filler though. Don't fix what isn't broke! |
