I've just strung up a new guitar, the third, and currently the last, in a series of 12 fret OOOs, the other two were Redwood/Cuban mahogany,

and Lutz/Black Limba,

The new one is in Euro/Madagascan rosewood with the following components.

Top, European Spruce (Timberline)
B&S, Madagascan rosewood (Madinter)
Neck, Mahogany
Headplates, Madagascan rosewood
FB and bridge, Old Rio rosewood (Regency table legs!)
Binding, Curly Koa (Bob C)
Purfling/Rosette, Madagascan rosewood, ebony/pear/ebony

I'm very pleased with the voice of this one it has a very full sound with great sustain and separation which can only improve with time, it's certainly one of my best, with the sound I'm after from a guitar. It's certainly far too good a guitar for its future owner! ;)

This Madagascan rosewood is the third set I've used from a batch of six sets I bought a few years ago from Madinter for $70 a set, but is the first I've used on a steel string, it's certainly every bit as good as BRW but unfortunately is becoming as hard to find, though I do have few more sets on the way, but at $150 this time round. :(

Wow, thats some GREAT looking guitars! I especially like the treatment of the purfling lines at the string ramps on the headstyock. Where do you buy veneers that thin?

I'm embarrassed for you, Colin, that you would show your tail, like that! :o

Really nice works, Colin! I like slotted head. What tuner do you use?

Utterly sweet, all of them.
I even like the assymetry in the back's grain in the Madagascan.
Only you, Obi Wan...

Colin, you managed to create a pretty unique look from an otherwise pretty standard design - hats off on a job well done.

May I ask about the bridge? It seems large - not sure if it is my eyeballs, the photo or ... ? If it is unique in some way I'd like to hear your thoughts on what you did and why. If it is my eyesight, then I need to go get checked!

Filippo

Fillipo, well spotted the bridge is wider than normal, 7" rather than more normal 6", this is so that I can open the X brace wider, and still have the bridge cover the X brace, on a 12 fret guitar where the bridge is moved down the lower bout. It's well tapered out so the weight is kept in normal range.

The body shape is my own, or rather a tribute to my favourite guitar builder Torres. It is an enlarged version of one of his first epoch guitars.

Thanks Steve, the assymetry in the grain, was unavaoidable, you have to work with what you've got, I wanted the very point of the chevron to be on the centre line, no other configuration looked 'right'.

Thanks Ron, I appreciate your comment. I don't know about consumate craftsman, I still lust after the Gibson 336 that you made, still the best looking electric guitar I've ever seen!

I mean no disrespect to others on the forum, but your guitars are some of my personal favorites posted here. Your body design is very classy and unique...I like how you have adapted your classical likings into the steel string world. Drools :)'''''
