...and the 3 adult beverages I had to relieve my frustration aren't helping. The current 2 dreadnought guitars I'm building off of the plans drawn by Scott Antes and call for the fingerboard to be 1.69" at the nut, 2.31" at the bottom, 17.88" long all using the 25.4" string length. I know it's splitting hairs, but I prefer a 1.75" nut with the strings set at 1.5" and a .125 overhang. I'm thinking that my spacing at the bridge will be 2.25". I'm trying to calculate the width of my fingerboard at the bottom end and well here's where my math gets all fuzzy...

Based upon Scotts drawings, the width of the fingerboard at the bottom is 2.31" using the 1.69" nut as stated above. But in calculating my 1.75" nut using the fretfind (http://www.fretfind.ekips.org/original_ ... etfind.php) program, same string length, same fretboard length, it's telling me that the width of my fingerboard at the end should be apx 2.28. My mind tells me that a wider top fingerboard dimension should equal a wider bottom of the fingerboard, yet it's coming out the opposite.

Can any of you math gurus explain either what I've got wrong in my data input or formula or just general terms of how I've seemed to muck this up? And if any of you can explain this in the "Fretboard Measurements for Dummies" format it would be greatly appreciated!

I think I'm going to go troll thru a few learning threads and come back to check on this in the morning... my brain hurts! Eat Drink
