I thought it came out looking pretty nice! Better than I expected, at least. Thanks to the folks who replied to my previous help-seeking post. I decided to do it on a ukulele fretboard obviously. I figured it would be cheaper to replace than one for a guitar if I messed it up or it came out ugly. ![]() ![]() |

Nice work! I really like the use of wood. I've finished one inlay project, and while I am very happy with it, it is verrrry flashy. I'm not much for flash, so I think I would lean in favor of wood if I were doing it again. With that said, I'm in the middle of another even flashier inlay project, so maybe I haven't learned anything after all. If I can offer one humble suggestion: When you design an inlay, you might try incorporating significant details where you would normally see fret position markers. So, for example, you have the yellow stigma in your flowers at the third and fifth frets, where you would normally see position markers, but then the next one is at the 8th fret, which is one fret too high. Don't take this as a critique -- it certainly isn't necessary to turn your inlay into a position-marker-substitute, but I've always thought it is a nice touch if the design lends itself to that approach. |

I think it's a great effort, and suits a uke very well. The tip about placing the significant features on fret markers is a good one, and I'll try and keep it in mind if I should do something like this on a fret board. |
