I have a thing for old planes. Right now I have a Bailey #3, #4, #5, #6 and Miller's Falls #814, #14 and #15. I have had good luck on Ebay finding those, and most of them were dirt cheap, though they need a little work. #7's and #8 are pretty rare though, especially in any type of decent condition. Most that are there are pricey or get pricey at the end of bidding. I've been looking to save a little money by getting a Miller's Falls equivalent (#22 and #24) but they are non existent on Ebay. Does anyone know a good place to find these large planes at a decent price? By a decent price I mean for around $50 to $60. thanks. |

thanks, I'll be back in DC by August or September. I'm still hoping to find a deal on Ebay, but I've been looking for a while and come up with nothing yet. I was hoping someone knew of a site like this http://www.toolexchange.com.au/Stanley% ... ools-9.htm but with lower prices. I'm not paying Lie Nielson prices for "antique" planes. I just want something that is in decent enough shape to be tuned up and perform it's function. |

I've found several good planes in the antique shops in smaller towns. Good time of year for getting out and looking around. My favorite, a Millers Falls (#14?) was $10. |

My MF is about the same as a Stanley #5, I seem to remember the stamp on it is a 14. My son is the one who found this one; I use it all the time. The only thing I did to it was true up the sole, clean it and sharpen the blade. That's a nice link, thanks. |

My Miller's Fall's 22 came from an antique shop in Stowe, Vermont, mid 90's ... 16 bucks. |

I've been eying several Stanley #7's and #8's on Ebay for a couple days. Nothing under $70 so far. I love planes. Does anyone find any need for the #1 and #2 size planes? I don't think I am going to complete the collection with those two, but the rest I can definitely use. |

16 bucks ..... Yeah I know .... and the funny part was a few months later I was on Vancouver Island in an antiques shop near my in-laws place, they had a MF-14 for 46 bucks, in better shape, and I didnt want to drop the coin for it, thought it was too much !!!

I just picked up a couple old stanleys at a garage sale for 5 bucks a piece. I find alot of old Henry Disston handsaws for a buck or two at garage sales. |

I use a Stanley #2 like a block plane when the arthritis in my hand keeps me from squeeze gripping a typical block plane. I have an LN # 1 for what I thought would be similar reasons, but it is really unused and will shortly be sold, along with a big part of my "stable." The number two was a relatively lucky buy from ebay-not under a Benjamin, but still a buy. Those days are behind me. Really nice vintage planes are hard to find nowadays, except by luck or the effort and knowledge that Walt Q. puts into finding them."Brass City Records"--he does not give them away but he gives the money's worth. mt |

I guess I should just accept the fact that if I want a #7 or #8 it's going to cost me a good amount of money. The handles were broken and it has a corrugated sole but I trued it up and scarfed new wood in the handles and she works just fine now. |

I have had some 7 and 8 size, Baileys and flatside Bedrocks. I have found for use, my flatside 606 "try" plane has been most useful. I sold the giants long ago. Lately my planes have sat like a collection-not that long ago I really used them a great deal. Orthopedic issues have increased my power tool use.mt |

i got a #4 or 5 that i never use hence the bad memory on that one, and a #7, in the same lot for £20 on ebay when i was starting out. #7 is god! and a reet bargain. |

They crop up on the UK eBay quite a lot and occasionally they are from US sellers offering international shipping. Just keep looking every other day. |
