I posted this in the Shops Post but thought I'd post it here too to see what your thoughts on it might be. This is the prototype and I'm still in the R&D of it. I plan on adding a mini air pencil grinder to it with a percision adjustment simular to the axis adjustment. Changing the axis changes the ellispe shape and changing the pencil distance changes the size. It's based on John Farey's early Ellispograph from 1810 and on HAFF drawing instruments adaptation of it and now my adaptation of it for Lutherie use, I Hope ![]() |

Looks interesting Chris. Will it have the ability when finished to actually CUT the rosette channel or is it strictly for drawing and scoring? |

Can I assume it will draw plain boring circles? If it could also cut - I would buy one! |

Tim he explained that he was going to add a die grinder. Some may not know what it is. It's an air operaterd, high speed rotary tool (grinder, router, etc) |

Yea he said he was switching the pencil out for a "mini air pencil grinder". Wasn't sure what that was , was thinking some kind of scribing tool, but now that you say "die grinder" I bees understanding, ![]() |

Oh, I can definitely see the uses for it, I would just need to see it used a LOT to make it worth the effort to build such a beautiful example as you have presented. For my own uses, I can't see that I would use it enough. Well done from both a research and execution point of view! |

Here's a little better pic... They run pretty high rpm's I'm thinking 80K.... Pic of Todd Stock's grinder in use. I think Blues Creek Guitars made this base , IIRC. More tools are better, no? |

Yes it will do circles by setting the center/ axis offset at zero. There are two holes at 3" off center that can be pinned so the plates are inline. They were also used to locate the plates for the milling process and locate the plates in the jigs I had to make to make the jig. It's not like I have a CNC , I'm old school and that would be too easy plus I'd have to take the time to learn CAD. ![]() |
