Your face overlay looks very nice. Binding head stocks can be very trying if you go to wild on the perimeter design. I like the tight fit of yours and the color choice...elegant.

Waddy! That coco guitar looks like it's coming along GREAT. We'll have to meet up again when I get back to Charlotte in the coming weeks and give it a peak over a beer or something!

Blood Wood L-OO build. The back. Port hole. Laying out the fret board and headstock on the neck. The nut stays captive to the end cut off after the fretboard is glued down. It is removable for nut replacement. One more shot. Waiting on a top from Canada to arrive to continue.

I roughed out the necks for the next two builds. Helped my son put some finishing touches on a major nerf gun 'mod'. Apparently nerf wars are an up and coming thing............ He wanted it to look like a .50 caliber Barret Sniper. And I'm working getting this hung on the wall. I built it for the wife several years ago and when we moved late last year...this got pushed to the side. She's all over me. Last but not least I added a few choice things to my stash. Some Brazilian bridge blanks courtesy of Simon Fay. Some African Blackwood for mustache bridges and the like....and lots of other little things (olive wood, curly eucalyptus, jarrah). Can you see that stack of Curly Asian Satinwood in the back? It's the most curly Asian Satinwood I've ever seen.

Progress on #5. Finished up the rosette and cut out the sound hole. Attachment: P1030697 (Large).JPG Attachment: P1030698 (Large).JPG I also started prepping a Cocobolo bridge, cleaning up an Ebony fingerboard blank and trimmed my sides for bending. With some luck, I'll finish gluing the Transverse braces and the neck patch, then I can finish the brace carving and voicing the top to my liking. Maybe I'll find the time to bend the sides too. Depends on how much hedge clipping I have to do tomorrow. I think it's lots. I'm behind!

Foster, I have never seen a bloodwood guitar. Looks nice! Chris, that is a serious nerf gun! You might want to dip the muzzle tip in red or orange paint so someone doesn't mistake it for a real one! Pretty rosette, Waddy. I bound, radiused, and inlayed a fingerboard. Also bound my first headstock--I had laminated but never bound a headstock until now. It looks nice, so I'll probably do more going forward. Hopefully I can get the tuning machine holes drilled tomorrow as well as get the f/b glued on. This one is getting close. I like the tight fit of yours and the color choice...elegant. Well, be sure to post pix when you are done! I built some bunk beds years ago out of oak and put some bloodwood inlays in the frame. I liked the contrast. The maple should look good. Yeah, the reason I didn't bind a headstock earlier was my headstock design. I just couldn't get the bindings bent at such a tight radius. I had a 'duh' moment a couple of weeks ago when I realized my 1/4" binding had enough height to allow me to cut out the tightly radiused pieces from the face of the binding. This means my headstock binding shows a different face than the f/b, but I think it works okay. Thanks. Ken

Waddy, I love those go-bars! I wanted to build some but could not find the compression springs readily available....eventually! I managed to pound on the frets and get the first coats of EM6000 on the current build. Also finally broke down and built a go-bar deck to go with the double-radius dish I got from Shane. And - started the next build, with a Triple-X bracing pattern.....

Not in the same ballpark as the rest of you but I finished bracing and carving the back of my current build (WRC/Padauk). I was quite relieved that I joined the back with minimal fuss, as you can see it wasn't the biggest set of wood in the world. Also, I finally splashed out on some new chisels and I am very happy I did. PS: Sorry about the camera glare and HHG spillage my first batch was a tad more runny than I expected .

As my previous 'What's happening in your shop" non-guitar project was not rejected by the masses, I present my progress on the canoe. Planking closed in, trim installed, interior sanded and two coats of varnish. Two more coats to go and then I can start on the exterior. In comparison, guitar building is easier and faster. Can't wait to start the nest one! I started a Natural Planted Tank style aquarium for the shop window. This way it will be warm and green all year! The photo shows Day 1, style cloudy from small soil particles, its much clearer now. And I am working with my son building his pair of Saburo full range Hi-Fi speakers. We've got the panels cut so far, and the interior arrangements drawn out. They are really cool, 72" tall, 6" wide, 18" deep, double folded horn, single 4.5" driver each. Its good to work with him, we've been spending a lot of time together this last year, he's finally accepting that his dad knows a thing or two about somethings.

Another day and a little more progress. Got all the braces glued and, I think, have carved them to what should be a pretty nice sounding guitar. I wouldn't know from Jack, but I recorded some taps for Alex on my top, and he tells me that I have a weak node at 172 Hz and a strong node at 190 Hz, and those are probably the ring and ring+, and I'll probably end up with a box in the F/F# area = good bass. I did it by ear, and got it to a sound I liked, with good sustain, with a strong bass resonance holding at TB2 and at the tail, and a strong higher resonance holding in the wing of the lower bout. I use a pipe, still. Took me about an hour and a half to get them to a fit to the molds I made. I don't hurry when I'm bending. I take my time and fit as I go. They will need some tweaking to get a good fit on the top, in the solera, but not a lot. Man, do I know that feeling! I screwed up two completed V-Joint necks I built for my second guitar, after hand fitting the V-joint. The third one was the charm! Then I was able to salvage another for my 4th guitar by making a shorter scale. Point being, don't despair. You'll get it right. Filippo's right though, make sure you can't recover one of the err'd necks.

A lot of nice work guys! I'm voicing the top of my Grand Concert today. I'm also doing too many repairs.Not that I mind doing repairs but I like building even more! Spent the weekend pretty pissed off that I screwed up both my classical necks. Just minor mistakes - but I know I won't be happy if I keep going. This will probably mean a 3 week delay for me, as I have all the other parts - I was just completing the headstocks when I realized they both had too many headstock mistakes to keep going. So I will pick up some wood for 4 necks and begin building them this week. Spent some time working on my headstock templates and I still can't get them perfect... argh! and real work is piling up so I won't have much time to think about this.... but I guess part of me is glad that I am rebuilding the necks from scratch -

I'm almost finished with the prototype of my new sound hole rosette cutting jig. I have to change out the pencil with a pencil grinder and figure out how I'm going to set it up for precission adjustments. Probably simular to the axis adjustment.

This might give you some idea as to some uses for it. I actually discovered the idea when looking for ellispe templates for a sound port. The idea comes from John Farey around 1810 or so and HAFF's adaptation of it. And now my take on it for Lutherie. It's just a prototype to work some things out.

Mostly work around the house, hung new shutters, pressure washed the house, and trimmed trees. Did find time to cut and radius braces for my size 0 and got the back braces glued on.

A little more work done on the L-OO: Ready to glue the fingerboard...still waiting on my top wood before trimming the end of the neck. The back of the neck is shaped and ready for final sanding.
