I've been reading about a lot of new shops in the works over the last year and have been looking as well. This spring I was able to find a location near home. Once a price agreement was made, I had to get planning and zoning on board, then the city council. All is well and I closed on the property yesterday morning. There is plenty of work ahead in gutting a setting up shop, but should be worth the trouble. Here's a shot of the new building. On the Southeast corner at a, soon to be, very busy intersection. A new off-ramp was just opened to MacArthur Blvd. and this building sets right on the most traveled road between MacArthur and the main thoroughfare, 5/6th streets. Attachment: Dsc00275.jpg We had planned on moving about a 500 bd ft. of lumber into the building this weekend for safe-keeping and just getting it out of the way. So... early afternoon, enter that sob Murphy with all his lawyerin'. An estimated 4 1/2" of rain in 1 hour in our neighborhood turns into... Attachment: Dsc00906.jpg which backs up the storm sewers and results in... Attachment: Dsc00891.jpg So.. instead, here is all the lumber to be moved into the dry building sucking in backed up sewer water. Who's interested in some 'stinker' tops? I have to say... crap. Good news, none of us were hurt (just feelings), h20 is now pumped out and the de-humidifier is doing an excellent job, no damage that can't be written off, swmbo was extra nice to me... and... I got a new shop on the way. Sometimes life sucks. Isn't it great!! Live every minute. ...more of the same in the forecast for later today. |

Ouch! Keep your chin up, it can only get better from here. That looks like it is going to make a great shop. Good luck. |

A shame about the flooding, that kind of thing is always such a drain. On the plus side that looks like it's going to be a great shop! |

Dude, that really stinks (sorry, I couldn't help it ![]() There was a storm like that just south of here yesterday. Big red spot on the radar that just sprouted up and sat there not moving for about half an hour and caused a bunch of flash floods. I love watching thunderstorms, but they can cause some suffering sometimes. The new shop looks great though. Are you going to set it up as a sort of store where people can come in from that busy intersection, or just sit there with your banner up to get the word out ![]() |

Thanks guys... and the 'stinks' and 'drain' comments gave me a grin. Dennis... I will have a sign for the business but will not have regular hours and will be open by appointment only. There is no way to get work done and watch a storefront at the same time. For local business I have a future employee in mind to do repairs and setups. We'll have to work that out with the insurance rep and accountant. If it works out, hopefully enough of that work will be available to pay for the fixed costs, although, I'm not counting on it. I am hoping that passers-by will see the sign, go to the website and realize that hand built instruments are available to the average person... and... order one or even become more involved with local acoustic music. Time will only tell. |
