Great tutorial as always Robbie but I feel a need to comment on the thinning of the nut in the drum sander. I used the same technique many years ago and almost lost a finger when it was drawn into the drum on the out feed side. One must use a carrier for the nut or saddle blank to be safe.

Thanks for the tutorial Robbie. I am almost to that point.

It is amazing, the amount of help available here on the OLF. Most of you go above and beyond when it comes to helping starting Lutherans ( my spell check doesn't recognize luthier as a word, lol ). I've been on other sites that are more like a private club and if you are a newby just starting out, you are usually talked down to and peppered with smart arsse comments but I have yet to see that here.

Thanks Robbie! The starting pointers you gave will really save me time (1/32 over the fret height on the nut). As a beginner I tend to leave larger margins for error, then slot to "close". After several string ups, slot adjustments, I would file down the excess top of the nut to leave 1/2 of the string outside the nut slot, then sand and polish with the nut already glued in.

Tip o' the nut to ya.
