Post subject: | Gluing Question |
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I am interested to know the answer. Today I played a guitar and the backstrip comprised of3 different coloured purfling/wood strips glued together. As these strips are very thin (0.6mm) how can you accurately glue these 3 strips together so you know that the final gluing of the back joint will be as strong as can be? Would you simply use CA and sandwich the strips together and then use HHG/Titebond to glue this backstrip when jointing the back? I am quite interested in trying this myself but would like to know a method to go about doing it well. |

I would glue up a sandwich of your selected veneers and then rip it to the desired thickness. The back stripe can be inlayed half way into the back after its glued up or sandwiched in between, your choice but the back graft should help stabilize the joint. |

Sounds good. I am going to give it a go tonight. I am waiting for a load of supplies to do anything else so I need something to keep me busy. |
