One of those pics shows Todd holding a ruler....what kind of ruler is that?

I am seriously thinking of donning the all black nite gear and taking a trip to Todd's shop....so that I can 'shop' for some planes!....I love hand planes!

Ok, so I've been suffering lackofmotivationitis lately, but I got the neck for the baritone Uke all glued up this week and plan to get that thing and the explorer I've been working on for months ready for finish by Memorial Day........

Nice guitar Filippo!

Continuing work on an EIR OM. Body is all ready but for pore filling and routing out the pocket for my f/b bolt down setup. Love the OTT lights as well. Got one over my very unorganized bench.

Taking the day off to visit Bill Hinkley of Bill Hinkley and Judy Larson fame. Bill is in hospice at Vet's Hospital in Mpls and his days are very numbered. He has had a stream of visitors from Garrison Keillor to Peter Ostroushko, and we have all been playing music for him daily.

Great looking binding and butt wedge Ken. I just bent the Curly maple binding and purfling for the Dread I am working on. I sure don't get much done this time of year. I will have some photos next time we do a what's happening in your shops thread.

Hey Chris ... you mean the lexan center finding jig? Tracy @ Luthier Suppliers carries them. He's a sponsor, just look at the top of the page and click the link.

Actually Filippo I have that centerline finder. The ruler he's holding in his hand....it looks like it's graduated in thou's.....can't really see though.

Put in a 100 amp subpanel with 8 new 20 amp GFI outlets and 1 220v 20 amp outlet in the garage/shop. Had to make the prerequisite 3 trips to the hardware store to finish getting the 220v installed. Changed from a 4" box blah blah blah to a single outlet and made the 3rd trip my last. Unpacked my new 18" Rikon and attempted to get it set up (going to have to read Todd's instructions again!) as it came partially assembled from the store but way out of whack along with some extra pieces (where the hell do these go?). Was able to get it running fairly accurately and cut some 7/16" brace sitka brace stock and ran thru my drum sander to clean it up. Next project is to call Lou Iturra and get a 1/4" blade for detail work and see if I can keep from messing up these 2 beautiful mahogany blocks as I cut out my first 4 necks! Oh and kiss my wife's beautiful behind all weekend for letting me purchase this kick ass saw along with the 16/32 drum sander I got 2 weeks ago!

I'm a day late so I guess my post is "What's happening in your shops May 22nd?" LOL

I finished pore filling an all Koa "Mini Dread". I'll start spraying it sometime next week.

Lacewood. Yeah, it's odd looking no doubt. A pattern similar to quartersawn oak, only much more pronounced. The wood is also referred as silky oak.

For those of you interested in ukuleles, I just finished this all koa concert uke with plumeria flowers inlaid with gold and white MOP and paua. Thanks to Steve Courtright for help in thicknessing the body woods.

Todd, my only experience with Larch may or may not apply. I've used it for making traditional arrows. At the time I could use PO Cedar, Sitka or Larch. I really didn't like Cedar, it was too soft and fragile. I think the desert air dried it out too much, making it too delicate for a budding archer. Between Sitka and Larch, I preferred the Larch. Didn't seem to dent as easily and had a bit more heft to it than the Sitka. I would have continue using it, but my supplier closed up shop for personal reasons. My experience with Larch is limited to making and using 4 dozen arrows from shafts bought at the same time. From what I remember of it, I would give it a go for a top. IIRC, I had Western Larch.

Thanks guys for all the kind words. This is my second white oak gtar (built an OM 2 yrs. ago).

Filippo & Haans, this guitar sounded great right off the bench. For a small body gtar it has a strong bass and well balanced throughout the mid and high range. This has surpassed my expectations, I was taking a chance using eastern larch since all other larch users that I could find were of the western variety...Just started another 0 size larch/white oak.

Haans & Todd, eastern larch, aka tamarack, is a rather nice softwood to work with. It is at least as dent resistant as sitka (as has been said), and very stiff like adi. What's the catch?,, it is very dense, so I am not sure how it would work on a larger body. The final thickness of this top is .095 at the soundhole and .090ish at lower bout perimeter. The billets that I have, have too much runout to risk trying on a larger body...And the growth riings are rather far apart, 4/inch or a little less in some places.

I am planning to attend John Halls open house in July, I'll bring it along so you all can have a listen.

I 'm getting ready to bind a walnut 13-fret 000 and put the top/back braces on a 12-fret size 0. I'm also working on a repair job to make a new neck for 12-string electric.

I've got photos but the camera is in the shop idunno
