This is the real deal. This set of Brazilian Rosewood came from the estate of a guitar maker who passed away more than a decade ago. The back is easily large enough for a dreadnaught, and the sides are 6" wide. With some careful cutting you could get bindings from the sides for a perfect match. The back has beautiful interlocking grain, and some spectacular coloring.

This is an exceptional set worthy of a showpiece guitar.

There will be no buy it now price on this one. We will conclude the auction tomorrow (Monday 5/17) at 3PM EST. There is a modest reserve of $550 on this set.

Due to CITES issues this set is only available to US bidders

Good hunting.

How's the Q when tapped?

I haven't measured "Q" but Brazilian is the top of the charts for Q.

When tapped it rings like a gong. Long solid tone. It is very dense and lively.

Come on people, someone has to want this  I haven't even finished my first guitar. It will be a long time before I could do anything worthy of such natural beauty. But if ever there was going to be a perfect Brazilian set for my taste, this would be it. So I could sit on it for a few years and admire it and tap it and smell it and design 20 guitars to use it on, eventually chickening out and selling it for a couple hundred more than this

...or maybe I could just leave it alone. But it sure would be easier if it wasn't sitting there looking all lonely and unwanted.

Hey Dennis I feel the same way as you, although not too sure about the unwanted. This one has kept me coming back.
Shouldn't be doing this, but if no one else is gonna

I'll bid the $550, even though I know it would probably sit for quite a while before I can use it.

Thankfully I can now turn off the computer and go to work.

Good for you, Tim.

Look on the bright side - before you build with it, you can sneak down to your shop when you can't sleep at night, tap it, and listen to the sonic perfection of Brazilian. I've got a couple of sets that I dont have the courage to build with yet, but just knowing they're there is an inspiration in itself. Yeah, I know, I need help.....

Thanks Tim :D
Make something special out of it. I was thinking a GA or small jumbo type shape. Sinker redwood top with 1/16" paua purfling, curly koa binding, Brazilian bridge, walnut neck with Brazilian headplate and African blackwood FB with koa binding and turquoise side dots and some kind of artistic fret marker inlays. Rosette maybe a 1cm wide walnut or rosewood ring bordered by black/koa/black purfling, with twisty maple vines with paua leaves overlapping it, the leaves reaching outside the main ring in places.

Oh well, I guess I can make that one with Indian rosewood or cocobolo instead

The classic adi topped dread would be good too, to better show off those ink line "columns".

I better get back to work and try not to think about it for a couple more hours, before I talk myself into competing for it.

Post subject:  Re: AUCTION :: OLD GROWTH BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD

Well now that I'm home from work. WOW!!

One of the nice things about this set, besides the color, is its' size. I've only built up to 000 so far, as soon as I get to SJ or J I'll really start looking at this guy. Surprised nobody else stepped up.

Better respond to my PM
Thanks
Tim

I'm still broke from my bandsaw and drum sander purchase or I'd have jumped on it. Good catch!
