I just joined the top on guitar #4. This is the first time I have been able to complete the job using only the plane and not going to other methods to finish the edge for a tight joint. It's not a huge accomplishment in the overall scheme of where I would like to take my building skills, but a very satisfying victory over something that challenged me on the first 3 builds. Since my significant could at best only try to act as if she were impressed, I thought I would share with others who would likely have a better understanding. The only difference on this build was using Todd Stock's scary sharp method on the plane prior to going at it. Thanks for the video!

Donald: Your significant other is not too impressed because she can see the potential that you yourself can't see yet.....!!! Congrats and good luck.

Important addendum: My significant other is a wonderfully supportive woman in my guitar endeavors and I wouldn't want my post to imply otherwise. She just doesn't get as excited as me at times. idunno

It is all the small victories that win the big battle. [:Y:]

Sell a few guitars and then see if you don't both have a better opinion of you. [clap]

Given time, I'm sure your significant other will notice that jointing that top with just hand tools and raw skill ripped your abs, made your breath sweeter, decreased the rate at which you leave the toilet seat up, and has every woman in the frozen foods section of your local supermarket thinking impure thoughts as you breeze through headed for the checkout.

Anyway, that's been my experience (YMMV).

But seriously - good on you!

That's what happened for me.

Of course... but it all became too much to bear so I had to go to sandpaper and level... :geek:

Thanks to all for the encouragement.

Todd: I wish I'd known all that much sooner. I'm heading out to the garage right now and then.........the grocery store!
