Hi Folks,
just finished these 2 Okoume wood guitars and its bound for the Beijing Guitar Show ( organised by Christie Soong )
Its a very interesting wood and lots of fun working with it. Enjoy!

That is some beautiful wood, and workmanship, Jeffrey. As far as hardness, density and workability, what more commonly used guitar wood does okume resemble? Mahogany perhaps?

Drooling over the finish as well, I love the subtle bursts, anything on your method and materials would be appreciated.

Thanks Folks.
First a little story, I visited a wood factory in China which supply wood to many of those guitar factories, saw some of these wood lying around and managed to get 2 sets from them.
Looks like mahogany, feels like mahogany but its not mahogany! laughing6-hehe
Its has a lot of similarity to mahogany, bends well , very resonant and easy to finish too.
Now about the sound.... I've completed these 2 and of course as a player myself, it would have been a wall display sculpture if its not sounding good moreover bringing them along for a big show might be to embarrassing . anyway, its a good successful project once again with some new stuff and showing luthiery is more superior to wood.

Yes, I did a little sunburst bcos the natural colour of the wood is a liitle boring. just a tinge of wildhoney brown at the edge so as not blurring the nice lustrous grain of the wood.
