Hi! I have a nice Adirondack spruce top, really beautiful and the tapetone is amazing BUT... there's a big knot (who's bookmatched) about ½'' off the pattern. The grain isn't straight either, so I will have to eat about 1 inch from the center edge of each plate to bring the grain straight along the top. So, this way, the knots will be in the pattern (at the waiste). I already contacted the supplier, and they refused to refound me, claiming the knot is out of the pattern. I'm pretty sure I couldn't use this top for what I wanted to do (OM). So... What would you do with this top? How adirondack is going for smaller bodies (classical, parlour, etc?) Thanks! Francis |

WOW .. any reputable supplier will refund or exchange an unused top for similar value .. thats lousy service .... do they sell used cars too ![]() as for this one .. Adi makes a great top for any small bodied SS, like a 0 or 00 .. I wouldnt use it on a classical, but I am sure it has been done, I prefer Euro or Englemann. |

Francis, why don't you try to post a pic of your top? There may be a way to orientate the pattern and avoiding the knots, like locating them in the soundhole, or do a slipmatch etc. |

Did you consider binding and purfling widths,or use a wide herringbone or rope pattern to give you a bit more room. |

Thanks everybody. @Tony - Nothing more to say... ! @Laurent - I tried every orientation, from every face, match, etc. And can't ho with split match 'cause the grain is way more large at the edges that in the center. Can't put them in the soundhole either. @Westca - I've consired, but decided that i'll buy an other top before changing the plan. @Haans - WOW! I know what i'll do with my top now! So, after all, I think i'll just buy an other top, and recycle this one for a small body. Any suggestion of top species for a Curly Maple OM? |
