A friend of mine wants to start fret slotting with a table saw. He makes Greek bouzoukis. Greek bouzouki players do not like truss rods, because they think it destroys the tone of the instrument. So, the way luthiers handle warping of the neck is to use frets with no teeth, and when a neck warps, they can easily remove some frets in the warped area (with very little damage to the fretboard since there are no teeth in the fret tangs) and install some frets with a wider tang. In Greece, they sell fret wire with 8 different width tangs. My understanding is that some older StewMac fret slotting table saw blades had pretty narrow kerfs (about .019 inch). If anybody has one of these blades, and would be interested in selling it, I would like to know the price, so I can let my friend know. If you could measure it and let me know the exact width, that would be great.
Thanks.

Just a suggestion. If there is a machine shop nearby you could take a standard kerf blade to them and get them to machine the edges of the blade to whatever size he needs.

Yes, I know of several machine shops, and I am sure he does too, but I just thought it would be easier to get one of the old Stewmac blades. I was told that the first batch was too narrow (about .019) and a lot of people bought them, but did not like them, and probably would like to unload them. If I can't find one, then I already suggested he just get a narrow kerf plywood blade and have it reground.

Hey People,
I am BUMPING this because I told Christ that I had my blades made because some of the old Stew Mac blades were reported to be in the .019 range. I know that many of you have replaced them older blades with newer blades and SOMEONE must have one of the older ones around that is gathering dust!

Thanks

Shane
