LMI usually has it in stock but they are out until the end of the month and I've got a deadline for 2 NAMM show guitars which are coming along but I may not have quite enough to finish them for the show. Looks like it might be pushing it too close. I'd use some regular flake shellac but I'm not sure the combination would be ideal. I'd even take half a bottle if anyone has any they could spare. Hi Bruce, I have a brand new unopened bottle of the stuff that I bought a few weeks ago. I have no immediate plans to use it on any instruments, so you can buy it off me if you like and I'll get a new bottle later. PM me with your name/address and I'll check the shipping cost. Cheers, Dave F. |

Any users know how amenable this shellac is to repair? I like the idea of its durability, but am wondering about finish repairs down the road. thanks, Mike |

Good question Mike. I have no reason to think it won't be a straight forward repair, especially if it's the material being repaired. I've had a little experience going back to a spot after some time and have perfect adhesion to the original material. There was some concern at first that if it were applied over other shellac finishes checking could occur. I've never experienced that and there is supposed to be a modification to the original product that fixes that. So far I found it to be easy to work with. Time will tell. |

Make sure you wait 21 days after you apply it before buffing it out. It needs to cross-link. Otherwise you will be disappointed. I alwas wait 3 weeks as recommended by the manufacturer before buffing out. I know other luthiers who waited less and got poor results. I love it. It is a great finish. |

Good point. I've had good success after 18 days but 21 is best. Seems to need that time and it makes all the difference. Thanks to Dave for bailing me out, had a great visit to Dave's place today. He is a very talented guy, his approach is very technical but has a great eye for style as well. Thanks Dave. |

I had built a guitar for my friend about 8 months ago, and he just returned the guitar because he was using one of those sound hole humidifiers and it was too wet. It had slid down toward the bridge and sat on top of the finish for a few weeks. The finish turned white in these areas just as any shellac finish would do. All I did was just take my FP pad and add some alcohol to it and rub on about 15 strokes. The alcohol was enough to soak into the finish and evaporate the water caught in the finish. Now I have to FP the area over a few days, and wait a week before hand buffing out to a shine. To me the finish acted like any other shellac finish. Very easy to repair. Anyway, that is my first repair experience with ubeat hard shellac. |

It was nice to meet you Bruce! Thanks for the second opinion on that purfling idea I was contemplating - helped stop me procrastinating on the issue!! I'm glad I could help out with the U-Beaut - don't forget to post pictures of the guitars when they are done. Thanks for the kind words too.
