How does one pore fill for example curly spalted maple? I'm using it for my headpiece rosette and but-strip. It is quite porus. I obviously don't want to change the look of the spalt in any significant way. CA? Using Robbie's lacquer and spalted maple end-grain dust? Thanks Steve |

Seal it with blond shellac or thin lacquer. Then use med. ca to fill. Then sand level. Mike |

Steve- If your spalted wood is not 'in the guitar' already, it can make it machine/cut a lot more cleanly if you hit it with thin CA first. Whether you are applying CA/shellac/lacquer, it will soak it up like a sponge in some areas. I use spalted wood in rosettes and generally do the CA 'thing' before I cut the ring with the router -much cleaner edges. Cheers John |

I don't know about guitars but when I have carved spalted wood I apply thin CA, let it set up and then work with it. I have a friend who used to turn spalted wood and he also put thin CA on it and then used his turning tools on it. However, I don't know how to do it on a guitar as I have not used it on a guitar.
