I'm looking for a belt/disc sander combo. The Harbor Freight 4" x 36" belt/6" disc sander looks good on paper. I know they make a lot of junk, but could this be an exception? The Rockwell unit looks good but its twice the price. |

I am curious as to how good it is as well. There is a coupon in "Great Garage Makovers" magazine for the sander at $49.99. Forgetting about quality and thinking about if it would meet my needs, my concern is how quickly am I going to wish the disk was bigger. |

I nave the 6" wide belt model. It has worked well for me. I have some issues with it but I feel it was worth what I paid for it. |

I have that sander. I use it strictly for putting the toes on belly bridges. For that purpose it works great. FYI I took the disc part off because mine wasn't flat. I have a 12 inch Delta disk sander for that (and it isn't really flat but works). Chris |

I had used the same size a Delta with 6" disk and didn't find much use for the disk either. All in all I wished it was just a bit bigger. And I was doing Uke stuff at the time. ![]() It just occurred to me that I'm right there with you wondering. I am in no way telling you not to go for it as I have no practical experience with this model. I'm just laying out my thought process for not leaping to this one. One thing that I have learned is that once I have a tool it is much harder to justify to the spouse that I need a better one. Even if the first one was dirt cheap. |
