Number 6 build OM Wedge finally complete

Post subject:  Number 6 build OM Wedge finally complete
I finally got some photos of the Wedge Guitar that I strung up last Friday. This guitar came in behind number 7 though both had the finish applied at the same time. I chose the 12 fret 000 number 7 build to get completed first for no particular reason.

Engelman Top
Bubinga back and sides
Ebony Binding
Abalone Rosette and purfling
Honduran Mahogany neck
Nitro Lacquer over Z-poxy grain filler and Shellac sealer

Fred you are really moving !!!! cant catch up on that speed. hmm. Beautiful guitar. Really like the black saddle !! whats is made of ?

Lars the nut and saddle are a product called string saver from Graftech the company that makes Tusq, it is easier on the strings and tunes easier when you use a lot of different tunings like I do.

I have used these products on 4 guitars and have switched back and forth with bone and find I hear no difference in tone

Waddy the wood is Bubinga the shape is Manzer wedge.

That's a beauty Fred. Did you make the binding with the lamination, or buy it? I really like the way it looks.

As an aspiring Luthier, I have to say well done. As a player, I'd have to say that's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. It's exactly the shape I prefer, including the cutaway. Very nice Fred!! I'm :mrgreen: with envy!

Excellent work, Fred. The finish on the back is superb, it really brings out the color of the bubinga. The side purflings look great too.

If there was one thing to bother me, it would be the rather bland headstock shape. But I do like your signature inlay [:Y:]

Hesh the nut is the same material as the saddle from Graphtech.

Chris the binding is Ebony from RC tonewoods, the BWB purfling is wood pre made from A&M tonewood and the Abalone came from the guy in Australia that is always selling on ebay

Jason thanks for the compliment, I will have the guitar at the MFGS concert and workshop Saturday.

Beautiful guitar, Fred. That Bubinga is beautiful under finish. Also, the finish looks terrific. Did you do it yourself?

Hi Max

I do my own finish, I love the smell of nitro and napalm in the morning. Actually I have never smelled napalm and wear a real good mask when spraying.

Really like the looks of your guitars. This one's a bit flashier than the 000. Nice clean job on matching up the back plates and purflings. How's it sound?

It sounds real good and is opening up quite quickly, because I put a Tone-Rite on it for 3 days. The Tone-Rite does not do as much as they say it will, but then I guess most things don't live up to their claims. I find that it compresses the time line of the 1st month or 2 of playing into a week or 2. I left the 12 fret with the Tone-Rite on it for 5 days and played it for an hour or so each day and the real change came during the 1st 3 days, the next 2 had little effect on the tone or volume though I don't thing it did nothing, but the amount and rate of change was very small.

I borrowed the Tone-rite and I think I will make one out of a aquarium pump as the $180.00 price is a little more than I plan to pay.

Jason proper English is not a requirement for guitar building, and you were probably the only one who noticed.
See you tomorrow, you can play the wedge and I might also bring the 12 fret for my MFGS buddies to try.
