woohoo! I I'm in no shape or form a guitar builder or luthier or ANYTHING. just someone who lurks to learn the lingity of the trade etc so I know what the heck Marks talking about. BUttttt,
hopefully at the end of the month, I'm heading off to Sergei deJonge's to learn to french polish!
eheheh, maybe I'll end up showing something off at the Montreal Guitar show at our booth
Anyone have any sage tidbits from someone who literally as NO experience with french polishing? the closest I have learned is metal finishing  !

I recommend starting exercising your arm now. Go out and wax the car! Work hard. Simonize! Wax on, Wax off! Do it all with your predominant hand! Do it every day for a week or two, then you'll be ready! Also, read that Milburn tutorial. Even if you learn a different method, it will prepare you to understand what's going on. There are lots of methods, and most work pretty well.

At first I was too intimidated to start, so I 'chickened out' and used Tru-Oil on my first. Then I read Michael Dale Payne's tutorial and thought...'sounds kind of doable', so I gave it a go.

I thoroughly enjoyed the (almost meditative) process of french polishing...it's not meditative for your arm though :)

Here's the result...not perfect, but I was happy with it.

enjoy your time learning,
