Nice one Todd. I share your enthusiasm for this model. I've built 2 so far and they get more commentary than any other size. I have 6 models that potential customers play and 7 out of 10 want to take the little parlor model home for further review. Change of pace indeed. Players have said it is the perfect noodling guitar to play in their favorite chairs and create. One stated that the guitar was able to take him back and remind him as to why he began playing in the first place...for personal enjoyment.

Very nice, Todd. I love those little guitars. I built one for my kids a few years ago, but they wanted "real" guitars.

Hi Todd,

Love the 5! Could you point me in the direction for the plans that you used for this build? I have been on the hunt for some decent plans. Were you happy w/ the outcome of the build re: the dimensions etc., or did you feel the need to modify anything on the fly.

I've built 2 so far using essentially the same Antes plans as a start but with the requisite weight reduction as Todd described. I stayed with the Slothead 12 Fret neck and a 24.5" scale length. One was Sitka over Cherry and the other was Redwood over Black Walnut. Sounds were totally different. Out of the womb, the Sitka top was much more powerful and had those crystal-like trebles whereas the Redwood top seemed muddy by comparison. Bass response was about the same in volume and sustain but each had its own characteristic tone. Now, after 6 years, the Redwood topped guitar sounds totally different, the trebles have clarified and it is far more balanced than it was in its infancy. The Sitka model resides in Texas...I heard it 3 years ago and it still sounded great and continues to please its owner. The color change of the Cherry was dramatic, and stunning. I still prefer the Sitka model over the Redwood.

Here's a pic of the Redwood/Walnut...it's been referred to it as the "Bordello Parlor Guitar" because of all the bling.

great job Todd. When you have time or if you have time a shot of the inside soundbaord would be nice. I built a mod 5 some time ago but think I overbraced and while it is good I think I lost some bass. Might be a nice future project. Love the cleaness of your work. You rock !!!

JJ. Loved yours as well. Has that old worn in look.

Todd...I didn't want to dilute the attention to your fine guitar but I did want to contribute to the body of knowledge on Parlors. Since you asked, here are a few more details of the Redwood/Walnut offering. Unfortunately, I can't locate any finished pics of the Sitka/Cherry but will post some build shots later. Both were 24.5" scale slotheads...so the comparison was valid.

Gorgeous guitar, Todd ! Makes me think that I'd like a small porch guitar as well.

Looking at the plans at LMI, it seems that 6"x17" panels would be large enough for the top/back. Do you by any chance know how long (short) the sides need to be?

Great guitar, Todd. I really like the smaller sizes. I've built two with O outline, but slightly
deeper than Martin's O, one a 14 fret, and one a 12. I really like them both for both looks
and sound. But they're too large for my granddaughter, so the size 5 looks just about right.
Looks like you've set up my next build for me- gotta go look through the zoot pile... bliss

Todd - where did you buy that truss rod? I looked on Martin's site and they only listed " 12 fret " and "14 fret" truss rods. Is there a specific size 5 truss rod that you can get somewhere?

I'm still on my first build ( OM ) but already intrigued by the size 5.
