I just pulled some spruce out of my stacks and they seem to have some lighter discoloration in the areas I've had the stickering pieces. They're a shade or two lighter than the exposed parts. I've got my stacks stickered with 3/4 x 1-1/2 MDF. Something in the MDF leech into the spruce tops? Did the tops just 'age' a little more where they were exposed? Any ideas? Any way to 'correct' for this? |

Sounds like the other areas just got a bit darker. If something had leached out of the mdf it would be darker not lighter. It is a good practise to move the stickers around to different spots once in a while. Also 3/4" x 3/4" is plenty. I am sure it will disappear with a light sanding and or even out with moving the stickers and the passage of some time. Nothing to worry about. Link |

Exposure to air makes some woods darken. Ever watch Antiques Road Show? The twins are always talking about the bottom of dresser drawers not being exposed to air and staying the original lighter shades. Normal! Mikey |

I had a few sticks that were primered and had a similar effect on the spruce, so it seems like an oxidation issue from the descriptions here. Makes sense. I could stand to reduce the stick size and move them around a bit as well from time to time. The initial sanding run through the performax took care of most of it. Once I go to thickness, I'm hoping that rectifies it completely. Thanks for the input. -j. |
