I'm looking for sources for those 24" sandpaper disks that line contour radius disks. And someone who charges 'reasonable' shipping rates. I've seen as much as $17 shipping for one sandpaper disk, this seems excessive to me. TIA |

I got mine a few years ago from John Hall (Bluescreek) - they were shipped in a large flat box and the postage to Canada from PA was $19 then - quite a bit more these days, I'm sure. Shipping within the US should be less. I was very happy with the service from John Hall; my recollection is that he charged only the postage cost for shipping, with perhaps a small amount for the box and customs paperwork. For me the important thing is the amount of added 'Packing and Handling' charges - the vendor doesn't set the USPS rates. It's better to get several discs when the shipping is a major part of the cost- shipping 3-4 discs would probably be the same cost as for one. BTW, putting an 'extra' disc on the 'back' (flat side) of your radius disk can be very handy when you need to flatten something; it also helps keep the radius disc from sliding around on the bench. You might want to consider just using 2-3/4" rolls of aluminum oxide PSA longboard paper. It's available at most local automotive finish stores. Much cheaper and you save postage. You just line the dish with strips pressed down alongside each other. |

You just line the dish with strips pressed down alongside each other. I tried a similiar idea, using PSA floor sanding sheets, but they just didn't work at all on my motorized rim sander. The floor sanding sheets may be stiffer than the aluminum oxide paper. My problem is that an edge would lift, sanding dust would get under that edge and before long the sheet was peeling off and the 'stick' was all covered in fine dust. You just can't beat the PSA single piece discs that a few of us have custom cut specially for this process and for the dishes we make and sell. My paper is 80 grit and I find it just perfect. It is not too course, it cuts fast and lasts a good long time! Shane |

I needed to make a flat one the other day & used standard 8 x 11 sheet with double stick tape,(albeit 6" wide) and it's working. Mike |
