Post subject: | When to put in electronics? |
Hi All, Just about to start an OM build that will have an onboard (in the box) preamp, UST and USB transducers with a remote control at the soundhole. I'v never put electronis in a guitar before other than a Martin Thin Line UST. My question to you that encorporate electronics is: should I intsall parts of it before the box is completely built? Some of it, none of it? The instructions for every product I've researched are all about installation into a completed guitar. Appreciate your input. Thanks! ![]() Dave |

The only thing that I would do during the build is drilling the endpin jack hole. What brand of electronics are you considering? I ask this because of the "in the box" or onboard pre-amp. If this is built into the end pin jack (may are) then nothing to worry about. If you mount it somewhere inside the body, plan for that and glue a small block to the side somewhere for you to mount the pre-amp. Personally, I like external pre-amps that way if I want to use the pre-amp on a different guitar, I can ![]() Give us a bit more detail with the specifics of the electronics, it will be easier to help. |

I drill the hole in the tail block before the top and back are on the sides. Makes it easy to do it on the drill press and back it up so get a good clean hole. Make sure you check the directions for the electronics you're using before drilling. |
