Just wondering if anyone from Canada has tried sending a guitar down to Joe White to be finished. Wondered about shipping? Duty? I live in Ontario. N |

I wish! the cost to ship both directions and the inevitable hastle with "customs" just isn't worth it (sorry Joe). Bob Garrish knows someone in Canada who is (or has) setting up to spray polyester for instruments.....send him a pm to see if that's out of the bag yet... |

That was Michael Collins (Selmer Michael Collins) who has, I believe, since moved back to the US! |

Yup Michael Collins is back in Arizona. A buddy of mine, David Webber (right handy to you Rod!) just told me the other day that he would be interested in painting peoples guitars. He has built over a 1000 guitars in his shop now (80 to 100 per year recently) and has BIG spray booth. I have seen lots of his guitars on my visits and his finish is superb! Google Webber Guitars or contact me and I will send David an introduction if you like! Shane |

I've wanted to go out and Meet David Webber.... Do you know what he's shooting for a finish Shane? Guess I could just email him and ask too. I do enjoy the spraying, it's the rubbing out that sucks..... ![]() |

He's using a polyester of some sort I think. He and Ted Thompson are shooting the same stuff I believe and I think I have the same from their recommendation but haven't used it yet. But a quick e-mail to him will give you the answer and he can probably shoot whatever you like...maybe! He is in North Vancouver. Shane |

My guess is it's the polyester "varnish" from Chem Craft. Local in New West. Great finish, it's what Larrivee is using along with a few other former Larrivee folks. I think Mario is using the chem craft polyester too. I actually have some, but it's old and I won't try it (cause it's old, 5 yrs old). My father in law bought it to finish his one and only guitar. Lays down really nice and all, just need the right set up as usual. Actually it cures really fast (1-2 weeks ready to buff) which is also a good thing. |
