Post subject: | top shifted during glueup - please help |
Hi- I bought this top from another builder and the center joint is glued a bit off kilter. The top 2 pics are a bit fuzzy, but you should be able to see that the top shifted during the glueup - how would you guys fix this. As the top is already cut out, it might make regluing this joint hard. Is there a way to secure the top on a flat surface and reheat the joint - then press the joint back into place? It's a nice colored Sitka top with lots of bearclaw, so I really want to save it. Hide glue was used if that helps. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks- |

It looks plenty thick. Truck on. Sand it to final thickness and you will be fine. |

I won't give advice since I've never used HHG......but haven't many stated that you can just reheat HHG then let it cool and it will recure to original strength? If so, seems if you have a method of pressuring the sides to hold the joint tight while the glue sets, could you heat the top with a flat iron till the glue gives and the high side of the top sinks down level with the other side? Maybe lay something flat and heavy on the top till the glue sets. |

john, with lance and rod, i agree that the top looks plenty thick at this point. there should be lots of room to get both sides flushed up. forge ahead. phil |
