I'm not sure if this hasn't already been thrown out there, but is it possible to have a listening room for all these beautiful guitars we see showing up every day on the OLF? Occasionally a few of you have given external links to sound files, but I think we would get a lot more if there was a simple audio file upload method. I don't think a separate sub-forum is necessarily needed, but some way to get the files on the servers would be nice.

What do you think?

Maybe more of a Showroom. An area that is just for showing and listening, outside of the technical discussions that happen in the general area. Yes people can post in the general area, but those posts fall down amounts the other posts. A place you can browse through other peoples work for inspiration without having to dig through the archives.

Years ago the site started a member based sister site for members to display work, bio and sound clips. It was to be a subscription based site but as far as I know it really never came to fruition. I don’t know what happened there.

It would be really cool to look at the guitar one is listening to at the same time..
This might encourage people to post more pics w sounclips
great idea

How they sound is the most important part. [:Y:]

It would be great to have a place where we could listen to the different guitars that are built by members of the forum. Great idea.

I was recently thinking the same idea. Maybe an area where people can do a "blog" or something.

Nice idea.

I don't know how I missed all the replies to this. I saw Lance's post but didn't see any others till now.

I was looking online and it should be possible to have an inline mp3 player. I hope something like this does happen. Like I said, a dedicated forum wouldn't be absolutely necessary, but some way that makes it easy to listen without having to go to upload it on another website.

If OLF hosted everything it might be a lot of bandwidth and memory involved. Or, there could just be another subforum where people started a thread, and then linked to their recordings/videos. Like this:

http://apps.burst-dev.com/music/player. ... start=true

You can use MS Movie Maker to create wmv's. Just import your audio file and you will have a video with no picture. Then upload that movie to your favorite youtube account and post the link or embed here.

It has been mentioned, somewhere to store all those youtube links or embedded players would keep them just a click away instead of trying to find the posts that included audio links.

Maybe something like the plans section used to be?

This would eliminate storing the actual video/audio files on OLF servers and bandwidth would be youtube's problem. Eat Drink

I'll be the odd man out here and say that IMHO sound clips mean very little to me.....

I have had the privilege of being invited to a studio in Toledo a couple of times now as a friend of mine records. He's pretty savvy with home grown audio solutions too such as Audacity. My buddy has shown me how if the one making the recording knows how to use the tools you can make a pretty mediocre gutiar sound wonderful for a recording.... He calls it smoke and mirrors so this is not just my opinion.

Today in the Ann Arbor shop we took an acoustic guitar, Martin with a newly installed pick-up that did not sound very good at all and ran it through a Baggs equalizer and after some tweaking it sounded like a Somogyi....

Now combine this with how many people listen to their computers.... through speakers that probably cost the manufacturer less than a buck each.... Listening to sound clips of guitars over the Internet is to me not unlike Internet dating - how recent did you say that picture was???? :D You think that you are getting a O size and out comes a dreadn*ught...... idunno [headinwall] :D

Yeah...but...how many of us here play, and wouldn't mind hearing others play? A bad guitar could be made to sound like a "good" guitar, but aren't good guitars going to sound like "good" guitars too? ;)
