I'm going to glue a "backplate" (not sure of the correct term - laminate on the back of the headstock) using a bookmatched piece of Amazon Rosewood to match hte back and sides of this 000. The approach I'm thinking is this - thickness to .100, join it using handplane and shooting board, glue with (HHG? CA? Titebond?) then, once dry, bend the edge on my bending iron, to create that nice curve into the volute. Will HHG lose it's bond when I try to bend the bookmatched piece? Better to use CA? Thanks for the help. |

I would not use CA in mostcase or a jointed seam. Hide, PVA or Epoxy (Hide would be my choice) .10 is way thick for a peghead veneer. Typically .06 is the comon veneer thickness. Is this a slotted peg head or a peg head for post type tuners? if for post type tunners you do not want the finished peg head thicknes to be much more the .63 total thickness. this is less of an issue for barrel type tuners. |

Thanks, Michael. Post type tuners, not slotted. OK - I'll make it a bit thinner. So the HHG will hold firm while on the pipe? Clearly I'll be bending dry, then? No moisture? |

Most post tuners have a max allowable working thickness somewhere near .63-.67" if your pegghead is any thicker the bushing will not engauge enough to secure the tuner and you may have too short of a post exosed for the proper winding. |

Thanks - Yes, I've measured the thickness - and I'll be below .55" even with the peghead veneer. I'll go with the HHG. Thanks. |

I just glued 3 of those last night. I glued at 0.1" thick and I did hit it with a plane on the shooting board to clean up the edges. I used fish glue but would have used HHG if I had it heated up. I'll thin the plates down later to about 0.06" as Michael has stated. |
