Post subject:  ALL SPRUCE GUITAR?

6-7 years ago on the old forum there was someone who was building some all spruce guitars and then selling them for around a grand when finished. They looked quite nice when finished. I was thinking about trying one out of curiosity and was wondering if that person is still around on the forum, or if anyone remembers and has any info about it?

I remember that as well. Used Snakewood for binding, didn't he?
Lovely things.... Sorry, I just don't remember the name!

I found some that had spruce top, back, and sides from John Kinnard, but they weren't the ones I was thinking of.

There's a guy here in Québec that makes all spruce (Adi) guitar. Claude Boucher. It's a family companie, and the particularity is that they exclusively use Adirondack, that they harvest and mill themselves. At first, they had the idea of an all spruce guitar because they were loosing too many wood (they say about 60% of loss per log). So, for fun, and for "recycle" some scrap wood, they build a first all spruce guitar and, wow7-eyes , that sounds real great. Since then, they begin to offer for almost all their models a all spruce option.

You're thinking of Ron Steiger. Zootman has one of his Spruce geetars.

Jeff Sigurdson is making all spruce bodied Flamencos. I have even sent him spruce for neck blanks so soon he may be using spruce for all of the structural components. His comment was that the yellow cedar he had been using for backs and sides was too bright for his liking (even for a flammer) and says that he quite likes the Lutz guitars. I send him back sets that would not make good tops but the heavy knot shadow and the like looks right at home on a back. Anyway, you can google him, he has a website but can't remember if he has one of those guitars on his site.

He hasn't been around on the OLF for at least a couple of years now and his username here is/was allspruce. Here is a link to some pics that he posted of an all spruce guitar with snakewood bindings etc. http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5418

Thanks hesh, that's the one I was looking for. Interesting that he used soft wood for almost everything(-finger board, bridge, and head plate,) but used hardwood for the bracing on the top.

I found this builder on the web who uses all port orford.

I am going to give the all port orford cedar a try, I just happen to have enough in stash to make a guitar, but I am being a cheap noob. I am going to trim it out in cherry, again, I am being cheap and using stock on hand. I will visit Stansell this summer as he lives right where my wife likes to vacation, lucky for me.
