Is there any difference in the woods used for kerfing Does the specie affect sound/tone? Does it effect strength? What do you use? Why? Bob |

I use cedar because I like the way it smells. |

I like mahogany reversed kerfed lining because I like the way it looks when you look inside the guitar. You don't have little pieces falling off where the braces attach like you do with regular kerfed lining. But, then again, some builders use solid linings. Couldn't tell you about the difference of sound of using cedar, spruce, basswood, mahogany or any other species. Guess it depends on if you use hide glue or Titebond to attach it to the rims and plates.....ooooops |

Mahogany, Spanish cedar, spruce, basswood, cherry, WRC, even walnut. Any stable and light wood. I wouldn't use cocobolo, ebony, or even maple. It would work, but add unnecessary weight. |
