Oh the joy of being a noob again! I don't know nothin about no archtops but a friend brought me his epiphone in need of repair. Looks like it got dropped and the cable punched the jack through the side.

Now I'm going to take a wild guess that this is not the first time this has happened to a guitar like this. I'm thinking I'll glue a cross grain patch inside around the hole but that's still not going to keep this from happening again. Looks like Stewmac sells a curved cover plate that would serve the dual purpose of covering the cracks and reinforcing.

But before I reinvent the wheel, this must be a standard repair. Anyone done this and have any tips? Like, for starters, how to get the nut off the jack since there's nothing to hold on to.

Thanks.

edit: OK, I just found 'jack the gripper" so that part is solved http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Speci ... es#details

Or patch and move the connection to the end pin/tailpiece area?

I like the sound of that idea. I have one of these Epiphones myself and that exact thing has always been a concern also.
