Post subject:  Question about Endpin Holes and Internal Mic Jacks

I'm close to drilling the hole for my first endpin, however at some future date I think I would like to replace it with a jack for an internal mic or something like that. My question is will a hole drilled now for a wooden endpin accept a jack later on or will there be problems? I don't want to wait until I can actually afford the electronics as I want an endpin for a strap meanwhile, but that may be the wise thing to do. What do you think?

Rene: I install a jack on all guitars now. Get mine from LMI and there is a provision for a strap.I prefer the look of the jack and think it's easier to do it before finishing.

The endpin jacks take a bigger hole than the standard end pin, so it's not a problem to ream the hole later. It is easy to chip the finish, but usually you can get away with it, no sweat, if you go easy.
If you use a tapered reamer to make the hole bigger, it's a snap... If you are going to use a drill bit, I would plug the hole & re-drill.
I use the Stew-Mac reamer built for the job. It's expensive, but worth every penny.

Daniel, Tom, Thanks! I'm going to do it now rather than later.

You could get yourself a step drill bit to enlarge the hole
