I have built with Cocobolo before and always used Ebony bindings. How would you do a lighter colored binding and not get bleed over from this very oily wood. I want more contrast on the one I'm working on now. I have heard that some builders boiled rosewood for bending and to reduce the oil content. Has anyone tried this with Coco? Comments? Suggestion? Steve, plenty of folks around here have used maple with their coco. Here is a shot of Cocozilla... the only bleeding is on the strings. ![]() Attachment: cocozilla-butt1.jpg good luck. |

Todd brings up some good points and reminds me to fully disclose my process. In my work with coco and other redish resinous rosewoods, I have always used alcohol after sanding to clean up the coco by wiping along the grain, and from binding to coco... not wiping the coco to the binding. In addition, I do use an epoxy pore filler following the same (binding to coco) direction in my squeegeeing. |

Thanks for the suggestions. The maple looked very nice and that was the one I was most fearful of. Steve Brown |
