I've made what I'm calling a "soprano" guitar, with a 17" scale length, and tuned up to B. Think mandolin sized, but with 6 medium ga. steel strings. Anything like this out there? http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=98590631680&saved |

If you can capo a dread on the 7th fret, and still play, you could play this one fine. It looks tiny, but you adapt to it quickly. |

Although its not steel, it is 17" scale, with 6 courses. http://www.koaloha.com/Custom_Works/Dan ... ature.html |

I think this is the one Todd was talking about. http://www.news.cornell.edu/releases/No ... ar.ws.html I don't think I'll get one until I've got a vac like Hesh so I can find it. Mike |

Danny Ferrington made a bunch of 'baby' guitars with 17" scale- mostly 'celebrity' things with custom inlays, etc. Interesting work. I recently got a copy of the book about his guitars ($11 including shipping to Canada- what's not to like?). Abebooks seems to have quite a few copies- try to find a new one WITH the CD. It's an interesting read, v.good art design and layout, though the guitars themselves (Fender-style bolt on necks) are not 'my sort of thing'. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=danny+ferrington&kn=guitars&sts=t&x=0&y=0 Cheers John |
