Can anyone out there tell me a good way to remove this counterfeit decal without damaging the finish if possible. A customer bought this guitar knowing it wasn't a real Martin and wants to remove the falseness of it. The sticker inside is coming out too - It's easily peeling up. If its a water decal (most are) AND its not under any finish, simply soak it off .. if its been sprayed over (thats how I do them) then you have to remove finish to get it off .. if you are lucly there is enough finish left underneath it to polish out and you are good .. otherwise, you will have to spray more on ... as for the inner label ... scrape it off with a chisel thru the soundhole ... |

Hesh- Nah, not much to see .It's some kind of import that this stooge tried to pawn off as a Martin. But the kid who bought it likes it so I'll see if I can fix it up for him. I may take you up on the Claymore if I have problems with that headstock! ![]() Tony-Thanks. Yeah I found out it does have finish over it . |

Naphtha will remove many types of adhesives without harming the label or the glue surface. Lighter fluid is usually safe also. If the label is under the finish you will have to remove the layer over the label. |

What Tony said. Probably finish over it. Not hard to do a small refinish on it though. Hesh in the 60's had a few of those around on Recon patrols. You could also take apart and use the explosive (C-4) out and use it to cook food or heat water. A piece about size of thumbanail would do it. We always took an extra in monsoon time just for that. Didn't want to do it to all, might need em some nights. Also didn't want to stomp on them. We had a new Lt. we tried sevral times to warn, he didn't listen, nuff said. |
