I had a great experience today, presenting to my 5 year old daughter's nursery school class. I showed them how a handmade guitar is built, from raw wood to the finished product, then capped the documentary with a rousing performance of "Itsy bitsy spider". I learned that the secret to being a talented musical performer is entirely dependent upon the expectations of the audience. ![]() Anyway, it was a real trip, watching these kids eyes get big when I walked them through the bending of the sides (description - no heat involved, of course) and the other steps. Perhaps we've got some future members of the OLF coming in about 10 - 15 years! |

Cool, Corky! Maybe, by then, they will be able to peck out a version of "Smoke on the Water"! |

Very cool Corky. I did the same thing last year for my daughters grade 1 class. It was really fun. I brought lots of exotic wood, my side bender (bent a piece of scrap), a guitar in process and a finished guitar which the teacher used to play some songs for the kids to sing along too. It was very fun. I highly recommend it if anyone has the chance. |

DEJA VU! I remember playing that same piece for my daughter's preschool...but that was 38 years ago. ![]() Got the same response, too. ![]() Amazing how the "old standards" never go out of style! ![]() ![]() |
