Greetings, I am in my first sanding experiment with micromesh. I level sanded my topcoats of KTM-SV with 1500AO (the coarsest available around here). It took a while but I got it done. That was yesterday. Today I moved to 1800 and it worked very well very swiftly. But when I moved to 2400 the water turned black and little black balls of some substance or another appeared. I was wondering if that has happened to anyone else. I am speculating that the finish isn't cured enough to use the finer grits, but it's just speculation. Anyone have any thoughts/experience? thanks |

Never had that happen to me. I'm not a KTM user though. Does it look like you're losing the grit on the micro-mesh or is you finish balling up? |

You may be correct regarding cure of the finish....I've done several guitars with KTM (and still do) and yes it needs time to cure hard before sanding. Test for hardness after sanding; lightly rub back of fingernails across surface...if it feels 'rubbery', give the finish a rest for a few days. FWIW I get a bit anxious towards the 'end'and 'push' my finishing a bit aggressive...best to let it cure properly. good luck. |

I read on Pheonix mandolins site that he preferred to do the sanding before it got too hard. I guess I'll wait a few more days and try again. Thanks |
