Well, ah, what do you think it should be? And why? And is 2.5 mm too thin? And why? Thanks! |

Why is 2.5mm too thin? I think the bridge wing thickness has to be taken into account with the bridge plate and X-brace geometry.... If you have a thick/stiff bridge plate and narrow X-angle with lots of bridge overlap on the X -- you probably need to go thinner on those wings and vice versa.... Now... If you go too thin on the whole system -- you get weird crease marks and humps inside of the X-brace lower legs where the bridge crosses it. Thanks John |

I don't necessarily know if 2.5mm is too thin or not. But I made a couple that ended up that thin and want to know if there is any reason not to use them. Cheers |

I've never used one under 3mm (if I'm speaking metric right, .125"???) I'm guessing it would lose a little stiffness. Since you've already made a couple I'd try one. I doubt you'll have any structual problems. If the guitar sounds "weak" or something it isn't much trouble to change a bridge. |

Too thin and removing the bridge without damage becomes difficult. Don't make the repair person's life more difficult if (when) the bridge lifts. Too thick is added weight (and it looks ugly). |
