Anyone has /used large pieces of Tulipwood? (the real dalbergia kind from Brazil).
For example fingerboards. Nice glassy taptone? Heavy?

I have !
Plus I made a small guitar of it in the early 80s
It works just like Brazilian ,not quite as oily -at least the wood i used.
I use it for rosettes.
I buy pen blanks for them .
I like the color also-violet-white .

Thanks Mike, he is doing fine now.

I ordered the stuff. D*** WAS gaah

These are X-large bass FBs, a bit over 30" long, just enough to make sides for a medium classical. 4" wide. The back will be 4 pieces, of course. It should be fun slicing them with a Japanese saw.

The seller said the taptone is good, and that the stuff is a bit more oilier than Madagascar.

Alexandru those pieces are much lighter in color than the stuff i have.
Is the wood seasoned & ready to use?
Once you saw it should be stickered & to acclimate to your shop for awhile.

They seem rather consistent with other tulipwood photos found with google. Maybe you have Kingwood, the other small-size Brazilian rosewood? It's more purple and darker, but still on the light side of hardwoods.
In any case these will wait for at least 3 years judging from my current build plan.

I have Kingwood also.
Abosolutely beautiful wood!
Hard to find great pieces at a good price.
try www.cookwoods.com
But because my woods are 20+ years old there may be a difference in color.
Plus now days all rosewoods are so valuable that any wood can be called what ever the seller wants to call it.
I'm just grateful to be able to aquire it & use it for guitars.
There is no better reason to use woods !
