Beautiful work! I have a question about your rosette. Is the rosette going to be flush with the top? I'd be worried that normal playing on a steel string would cause quite a bit on contact with the rosette and that the finer details might get chipped off. For a classical or parlor guitar it should work fine. |

Rosette is domed about 1/16 above top surface. I'm a fingerpicker and this is my guitar (until my wife decides it will be hers) so it won't get a pick guard either...My initial inlay would not have been thick enough to carve in the relief so I needed to inlay another piece with more depth. I suppose a flailing flatpicker would tear up the rosette... I've seen flatpickers and fingerpickers that would warrant a pickguard for the entire top. NO WAY to protect from that kind of use. This is a total experiment for me. Kent |

Wow... Thats amazing work. I only wish I had you talents. Im curious how long does it take for you to do a carving e.g. the heel? Do you draw out the design first on paper or just have a general concept and just let the carving evolve as you work? Im looking forward to seeing the finished guitar.. Thanks for sharing.. Anthony |

Kent, That is just beautiful! Wish I could do that. By the way, how do you finish it without the finish building up in the nooks and crannies? I usually do a FP finish, could you do that with these wood carvings? |

Thanks for all the positive posts. I'll post pictures when I get this one done. My wife already put clame to it...just like my last classical. I'm not in this guitar making for the money......at least my wife doesn't seem to require i from me. Kent I still hope to do a carving designs tutorial with substance in the future. |
