I posted a few pictures of the rosette for #4, in the "What's happening in your shop" thread, so I figured I'd show the outcome here.

Here is the rough rosette, after gluing into the top.

Gluing in a new tile and the filler for the center of the channel.

The finished rosette. The repair wasn't perfect, but will be pretty invisible as it will be right next to the fingerboard.

Now, on to making braces, and thinning the edges of the top to prepare for fan brace and TB gluing.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Mike. I used the Fish Glue flooding method. How much did you thin it when you did it?

Hmm, why asymmetrical.

Hmmm, why not? i really hate rosettes that are too wide, and I was trying to not make it too bland, which the little blocks were going to do, so I added the little strip of slash purfling, left over from other builds. I also neede to keep the radius for the tiles in the same general location for it to be right.

I like narrower rosettes too. Mine are 17.5mm now. I like symmetry myself - maybe I would have left the rope band out, and add an extra black and white at the soundhole inner circle. But that is just me.

I hope I have not offended. Except that heretical asymmetry, it looks great. Also joinery is very very clean. [:Y:]

Looks fabulous Waddy!

And don't forget to thank Alexandru for your new signature line.

 where are those matches. I bet that spruce burns with a musical crackling tone.

Waddy;
I used 2 oz. water to 1 oz. of glue.
I worked fine.
Thinning it allot may kill the glues ability to hold.
I'm glad ya tried it .

Thanks, folks!

Alex, I'm not offended. It would take more than that. Everyone has different tastes. Also, depending on how you look at it, it is symmetrical! The left half looks just like the right half! This one is right at 18mm.

Mike, I think I'm OK then, I did about 50/50 on the mix. It wasn't as liquid as I thought it'd be, but seemed to soak through, without issue. I put it on then, sort of, massaged it into the rosette, and around the perimeter.

Actually, I let mine dry for 24 hours. I covered it with waxed paper, and put a piece of spruce and a weight on top, so I wanted to give it plenty of time to dry.

There's a lot to be said for asymmetry, ask mother nature.
Waddy. I can't work out how flooding it with thinned glue works. You've got side grain in that rosette.

Michael, it soaks down through the cracks and layers, of which there were plenty.. I noticed that there was a complete bed of glue under the piece that I chipped out. There wasn't any in there when I installed the parts. Some of the purflings were already glued together, before installing.
