Post subject:  Truss rod selection

Good morning. This is my first post here. I am building my first guitar and I am at the stage of routing the truss rod slot. I want to wait until I have a truss rod in hand before I go ahead and make the cut. My question is this - how do I determine the proper length to order. I am using a 24.9 scale. I would also like to have the adjustments done from the sound hole side. I want to be sure I do this right.

Thank you very much

Daniel

Welcome to the OLF Daniel!!! [:Y:]

Many of us really like the Allied truss rod and it was designed by Luthier Mark Blanchard who is a member of the OLF too.

The Allied rod uses a clever implementation of multiple threads per inch to achieve a geared-like motion that is very smooth, the smoothest that I have ever used. The rods are also stainless steel and weigh approx 119 grams. If you like this rod after reviewing it on Allied's (a sponsor with link above) site the specs for your channel are provided on the web page.

Another forum that I participate with likes these rods so very much that we are doing a group buy for folks who want to stock up.

Welcome aboard.

Hesh & Todd's responses have made me think........If you wanted to build a 13 fret neck, where can you get a truss rod? One day I want to try a 13 fret neck so I'm curious.

I think it depends on how you want to build your neck. Make a scale drawing of your neck and neck attachment then take some measurements while looking at some of the various length rods that are available.

I'm doing a 13-fret build and I'm planning on using the Allied 14 fret rod. I plan to let the rod run a bit further in the neck back to the nut and then the remaining extra length will be encased in a fret board extension.

make your own. a block of brass, some 3/16ths inch cold rolled steel and a threading die. only hard part is finding those little Allen key nuts or whatever they are called.
