Post subject:  Black Locust

Anyone build with it? How did it sound for tone? It seems like a good wood for sets.It is heavy, but so is rosewood.It is a very stable wood(better than rosewood).Also has great rot resistent qualities(posts last 75 years in the ground).

Apparently some are made. This company sells B. Locust b&s sets.

I've milled the wood and also turned b. locust. The only thing that may be objectionable to some folks is the greenish tint that can show up. It tends to mellow to a nice yellow brown though.

I was given a set to build a guitar, someday… Taptone and weight are equivalent to EIR, even the pore structure is similar. Visually, I find it less than exciting, borderline ugly, although this one set is perfectly quartersawn and has a shadow of curl.

Arnie,Funny you said it sort of looked green.It is one of the few woods i know of that flourses i a black light. Here's some pics. of that.

Laurent, I agree that is a not the best looking wood around.I do think a sunburst finish on it would help alot.
