Hi Guys, I'd like to hear your thoughts on on back/side woods for a fingerstyle Port Orford Cedar 12 string. I had a chance to play EIR version and it was great, but wanted something more midrange-y (my main 12 string is sitka/mahogany jumbo). Builders and technicalities aside, what would be your recommendations for a great sounding solo instrument? I'm looking for good midrange and fat highs, but not overly bright or harsh (and definitely not muddy). The body size will probably be GS. Any suggestions? Thank you for your time, Walter |

You might put koa on your radar screen. Koa and "cedars" of any type usually makes a very nice instrument...I've done western red, Alaskan yellow and POC on koa with great results. Remember, the Alaskan and POC are really from the cypress family. The build style/bracing architecture of your builder will also play a big part in the desired outcome. |

I agree if you want midrange Koa, Taz blackwood, Masquite ( most any Acacia), Narra good for midrange as well with a Cedar of Redowood top |
