Have any of you ever built a 12 fret steel string guitar with beefed up classical-type construction? How did it work? How stout was the fan/lattice? Any thoughts? Thanks, Peter

A lot of builders have been doing it for a while.... there are different opinions on the bracing pattern/profile etc but its commonly done.

Yeah, I've built plenty with lattice braced tops and backs, makes a great sounding guitar if done properly.

Cheers,

I'm inquiring about designs that have no X-bracing just a full latice (or fans)

Ask OLFer jim Watts and check out John Mello's site. He's been making fan braced steel string guitars for decades.

wow that is a ridiculous amount of joints to make and all fit symmetrical. did you build a jig to make sure all the angles were cut perfect every time?

Here's a couple of pictures for you.

This lattice top was .05 thick. While it was structurally sound and it sounded pretty nice, it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I will probably explorer this some more using a thicker top sans most of the cf.

Here's a hybrid X/Fan and I really like this design.
